Andrew Kaufman was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1971, and began his career at The Miami Herald while still in high school. Based in Miami, Florida, he has since extensively documented the impact of fire, drought, pollution and overpopulation on the Everglades. An avid surfer and diver, he has traveled and worked the world's most famous surf and deep-water spots, including Hawaii, Tahiti, Bali, and Costa Rica. He has additionally covered national news and international news stories including Indonesia's illegal endangered animals trade in 2000 and the economic crisis in Argentina in 2002. Presently he is working on a long term project on religion in the USA.
