Giorgia Fiorio was born in 1967 in Turin, Italy. She attended the International Center of Photography in New York and produced her first in-depth photo essay on boxers. Since then she has worked primarily on long-term self-directed projects shot in medium format black and white, such as “Men” which resulted in five monographs — Legio Patria Nostra (French Foreign Legion), Etre/Ser Torero (bullfighters), Boxin’ USA, American Firemen, and Men of the Sea — as well as Des Hommes (Marval 2003). Her most recent work, “The Gift,” is a major seven-year project on the theme of spirituality in all societies of the world.
She joined Contact Press Images in 1994, and in 1997 was named Documentary Photographer of the Year by American Photography magazine. She is based in Venice, Italy.
