Exhibition contents:

  • 148 box-frames: 136 archival black and white digital prints reproduced on 100% cotton rag, acid-free Hahnemülhe paper without glass protection, and 14 archival fiber prints (including 7 vintage) under glass:
    33x33 cm / 13x13 inches: 57 frames; 33x48 cm / 13x19 inches: 36 frames; 48x48 cm / 19x19 inches: 37 frames; 48x71 cm 19x28 inches: 12 frames; 33x23 cm / 13x9 inches: 5 frames; 90x135 cm / 36x54 inches: 1 frame.

  • 10 Page Ones of the Heilongjiang Daily reproduced in color and dry-mounted, in real size (54x35cm/21x14inches)

  • 30 historical documents and artifacts (newspapers, Little Red Books and other works of Mao Zedong, press id's and accreditation badges, armbands; etc.) that are on special loan to Patrimoine Photographique-Hotel de Sully and only available to other venues upon specific request.

The exhibition is divided into five sections, each of which is introduced by a text panel with historical background information; detailed captions accompany all photographs.

An introduction panel and two text panels by Robert Pledge (x2) and Gabriel Bauret deal with the circumstances surrounding the production of the show and Li Zhensheng's photographic background. A chronology panel completes the exhibition mixing in Li's personal biography with the period's most significant events.

Touring of the exhibition

The European tour is managed by Patrimoine Photographique in collaboration with Contact Press Images; the exhibition is due to go to Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom in 2003/2004.

A similar exhibition will be presented by Contact Press Images in Japan and the United States in 2004/2005.
