Annie Leibovitz
American. Born in 1949, is arguably the most famous portraitist in the world. Since beginning to take photographs for Rolling Stone in 1970, her many images of celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg, Keith Haring, Mick Jagger, Demi Moore, Tom Wolfe, and others, have achieved iconic status. She photographed John Lennon and Yoko Ono on December 8, 1980, in their Manhattan apartment, only hours before Lennon's murder at the hands of a crazed fan, Mark David Chapman. Annie was chief photographer for Rolling Stone magazine from 1973 to 1983, and has since been the principal Contributing Photographer for Vanity Fair. She is the author of several major books, most recently the highly acclaimed Women, co-authored with the writer Susan Sontag (Random House). She currently lives in New York City with her daughter, Sarah Cameron.
